Camping Chair Pros:

  • It’s way smaller than your average camp chair.
  • And it’s one of Leki’s most lightweight chairs.
  • The packability of the Timeout Chair is unbelievable.
  • I think the color options are really awesome. They’re less bland than many conventional chairs, rocking red and green hues.
Camping Chair Cons:
  • It’s pretty tough to fit this chair back into its bag. But it’s possible with a bit of effort and familiarity.
  • It’s a little pricey.

What Makes an Exceptional Camp Chair?

While searching for the perfect seat, there are a few factors that I like to evaluate. How reliable is this going to be? While $10 camp chairs offer a viable option for those who don’t travel far, they probably won’t be as reliable as some of the pricier options. Is it transportable? And how comfortable is it? If it takes twenty minutes to break down your chair, it might as well not be a camp chair at all. And, while comfort is subjective, why invest in a product that’s not supportive? Forking out the cash for a high-quality chair might be worth it, if you’re someone who spends a lot of time in the backcountry.

Compare & Contrast:

I made the following comparison based off of chairs that have similar dimensions and packability. If size and weight aren’t important factors for you, it’s relatively easy to find more affordable options. But companies like Leki and Helinox emphasize efficiency, which comes at a bit of a cost.

Leki Timeout Camp Chair

MSRP: $109.95

Weight: 1.9lbs

Chair Dimensions: 9 x 11 x 35 cm

Helinox Chair Zero

MSRP: $119. 95

Weight: 1lb

Chair Dimensions: 35 x 9.9 x 9.9 cm

REI Co-op Flexlite Chair

MSRP: $79.95

Weight: 1lb 12 oz

Chair Dimensions: 66 x 51 x 51 cm

Compared to the Helinox and REI chairs, the Timeout Camp Chair is competitive in cost, weight and size. It’s not uncommon to spend $100 on a quality chair. And the dimensions of Leki’s Timeout are quite impressive, making it easy to stow away in your car or in a closet when you don’t need it.

Leki Timeout Chair Testing:

I backpacked for a few days along the Colorado Trail with this chair. While, ordinarily, I wouldn’t bother to carry a chair while backpacking, the weight and small size of this particular chair didn’t bother me. It’s easy to pack, quick to set up, and convenient to have if you don’t want to sit in a bunch of sappy pine needles.

On a few occasions, I took this chair car camping. Whether you’re waiting for a friend at the trailhead or looking for a bonfire chair, this is a really great product to keep handy.

And another time I took the Timeout Chair to a sporting event. While many spectators were lugging around heavy and bulky camp chairs, the Timeout Chair is easily storable and light enough to make it’s versatility impressive.

Overall I’d give this chair 5 stars.

Final thoughts about the Leki Timeout Camp Chair:

After a substantial amount of testing in Colorado’s backcountry, I’m pretty happy with this chair. My biggest concern is the cost. I’ve never been afraid to sit on a log or in the dirt. So dropping $100 on a camp chair makes me hesitate. But the Timeout chair is also a quality product, and is a worthy investment if you often find yourself wishing for a comfortable chair. With such an easy setup and a packable frame, it’s easy to stow this chair in your car so you’ll be ready for whatever the world throws at you.
